I get it, we’ve reached a point in our lives where life gets a bit overwhelming at times and often self-care and productivity falls of the agenda. The next thing you know it you are still in your pyjamas watching day-time auction shows and game shows. However, I found a solution that may help get out of that period.

Over the years there have bave been an explosion of virtual growing apps, they have become a quiet favourite for people who want wellbeing support without the heaviness of mediation, CBT, or clinical tools . Two of the most popular. options are Finch and Flora, both are cute, motivating, but designed for completely different types of self care and productivity.

If yoy are decidiing between them (or you already use finch and want to see how it compares), here is a breakdown of what each apps does, who it is for, and which one actually fit your lifestyle.

What Finch Does (and Why People Love it).

Finch is a virtual emotional-support companion. You’re given a tiny bird who grows, explores, and develops a personality as you complete small wellbeing tasks.

What Makes Finch Unique?

  • Emotional check-ins that feel support, not clinical.
  • A companion app that reacts to your progress
  • Optional jounraling and mood tracking
  • A sense of continuity, your Finch grows with you.

Finch grows with you if you want soft accountability, a sense of connection, and wellbeing routine that doesn’t feel as if you are completing homework.

What finch is not?

  • It is not mediation app
  • It is not CBT or mindfullness based

It is simple cute, low-pressure companion encourages you take care of yourself. I personally use Finch (available on app store and play store) and I have found it to be useful and helpful for getting myself out of slump and feel accountable to others. So far, I have used the app the past few weeks and it’s helping. Its been helpful seeing the progress.

Flora

What is Flora? Flora is a bit different, you simply write down what you have got to do and challenge yourself to put your mobile away and get on with the tasks, you have set. It works by focus enforcement. A timer is set, a tree starts growing and leave the app and and tree dies

What makes flora unique?

  • Flora feels like a rule and doesn’t try to engage in same way,
  • There are no warnings or soft landing and is very direct
  • There is no checking in, no reard system beyond the tree.
  • But you have widgets with Flora and challenge friends who use the app
  • You can either challenge yourself with the coins on the app you earn by focusing or using real money.
  • You can block access to apps, which forces you away with from problematic apps.
  • You can set categories for each task of your choosing and build a schedule from it.

What Flora is not?

  • It does not hold your hand, so if you need that strict motivation for a project, it will help.
  • You do not have softlandings or a warning system, but is helpful for people for those with strict deadlines.

Conclusion

I personally use flora if I got stuff to do such as writing an assignment and focus on significant period or if I am with family need time away from my IPhone in social engagements. I also use if I’m trying to focus on a show I am watching a television show. However, i tend to use Finch, when I am on my low days and often not feeling great, just to be accountable for the basics.
