I have had always struggled with focusing and attention span, as I got older I tried most of the fool proof ways from supplements to buying expensive note-taking devices to removing social media, some of these were success and others were just hyped up gimmicks. So before you waste any money trying out things is what really worked and this is what I binned.
Firstly, we don’t need to download the latest software or play about with settings. Sometimes, it’s about choosing a backed app, that many students and professionals use and use gamification to work on habits. I personally use Forest, I have used it since it first started using it way back in 2014. It’s an app I have never deleted from devices. The good thing about Forest is you can use features that block access access such as facebook and reddit.

Then second, I grab a notebook and simply write down what I have gotta accomplish that day and start on the project.

Apps such as Goodnotes and notion, can be good alternatives if you like to keep your tasks and notes in one place.

The biggest game changer in recent years, have got be the ability to remove access to google news feed. (Google discover)
To remove the feed from within the Google Search app itself:
- Open the Google app.
- Tap your profile picture or initials in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings and then General.
- Find the Discover toggle and turn it Off.
I also make use of paper diary and Apple Calendar as, I find that we often need backups in case we don’t have access smartphones.
Like most things it’s often best to get stuck in a project, rather than have set small breaks, as it’s very easy to think “I will have a break at 4pm” go off read a book, check your socials and next thing you know knee deep in neighbourhood chats and booking that cruise. By all means get up drink coffee and use the loo, but waste valuable scrolling.
Finally, now make sure you have got music on stereo or radio as this can help you feel anchored while you work on those projects and if you are in library or environment that is very quiet. Simply use a pairt of headphones or aiirpods and you are good to go.
What didn’t help and why?
Despite all the hyped up reviews from TikTokers and so-called medical experts, I found Headspace and Calm to be a load of trash set for the bin. Firstly they are too expensive, if you are savvy with money. These will drain your bank account as fast as creating account and secondly the background sounds will put you off and you will feel naturally sleepy-mood than productive adult.

Gentle music is also big no for me, you are sitting there on your mac or pc and it may attempted to download “Anxiety or ADHD relief” that’s full of gentle sounds, think of spas and instantly you will think you will be transported picturing yourself on Miami beach. Which is ain’t good if you gotta fill in tax returns or mid-way through a meeting or report. The sound enough will put you to sleep.
Herbal tea: I love my herbal tea nothing wrong to sip herbal tea, while typing away but you will get nothing but expensive pee and multiple trips to the WC.
